The City of Hanover
A Gothic Hanseatic city, once a royal residence, Wilhelmine industrial city, now the capital of the federal state of Lower Saxony which in 2000 hosted the EXPO – its changing history characterizes the face of Hanover and makes it a place where there is much to discover.
There are historical buildings, stylish architecture, gardens and parks, art and culture everywhere one goes.The Sprengel Museum, the Kestner Society, Niki de Saint Phalle’s Nanas, the Gehry Tower und much more make it worth more than just one visit. Hanover is also famous for its many public gardens and parks, such as the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen which were designed at the end of the 17th century on the initiative of the Elector’s wife Sophie. Hanover is also called the “Green City”, due to the Eilenriede, extensive woods which spread into the city, inviting one for long walks and bicycle tours.
A large number of streetside cafés and restaurants cater for gourmets. There is always something for music lovers, especially for jazz and classical music fans, in Lower Saxony’s metropolis.
